Salon Staffing Guide for Owners: Roles, Rosters and Reducing Attrition
Most salon staffing problems are roster and clarity problems, not supply problems. Fixing the job description usually fixes half the churn.
Write the role, not the wish list
A vacancy that lists ten skills gets fewer good applicants than one that names three and states the salary honestly. Specify the service list, the target client volume per day and the incentive basis.
Roster design
Peak load in most salons is Friday to Sunday. Stagger weekly offs across the week rather than closing on the same day, and keep at least one senior stylist on every peak shift.
Retention basics that cost nothing
Pay on a fixed date, publish the incentive calculation, give one predictable weekly off and run a short monthly skills session. These four alone change how long staff stay.
